Life of Pi is a book by Canadian writer Yann Martel, published in 2001. After its success, a film adaptation was made in 2012. For this project, a paperback book cover for Life of Pi had to be designed. The final design relates to previous exercise compositions, where six designs using different media were created. The book cover required a harmonious combination of the cover, spine, and back cover, where each of the sections had to be equally compelling. The purpose of the proposed book cover was to communicate the story’s most symbolic aspects, but at the same time leave room for the reader to wonder what the storyline is and proceed to read the book.
